Man kills deer for eating apples from his trees
[Excerpt from the Tehachapi News] Bear Valley Springs Police said they arrested a 73-year-old man on suspicion of shooting and killing a female deer in his front yard — after the deer ate apples from his tree.
Interim Chief Jeff Kermode said officers arrived at the home of Billy Dean at about 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9 in the 23700 block of Lakeview Drive. They found the dead female deer and her two young fawns standing by her body.
Officers said Dean had consumed alcohol before the incident. Officers reported Dean and his wife decided the best way to handle the apple-eating deer was to kill it, which Dean is accused of doing from his balcony.
